Tips for Showering

Whether you shower every day or two to three times a week, there are ways you can refresh your shower routine. Let’s look at some tips and essentials for you to get the most out of your showering ritual.

Before showering.

Run the water at a lukewarm temperature. According to dermatologists, taking hot showers will strip away the skin’s natural, oily protective barrier which can lead to dry, irritated and itchy skin.

Hair experts suggest the best way to ensure tangle-free hair is to brush out knots before getting in the shower.

Dry brushing is gaining popularity so you might want to try it. Simply use a body brush to exfoliate rough, dry skin before you step into the shower to wash away dead skin cells and flaky skin.

While showering.

Do a quick rinse to wet your skin before applying any soap or shower gel.

Hair experts advise on rinsing your hair thoroughly under warm water for at least a minute before shampooing.

Exfoliating is good for the skin, removing dead cells and encouraging new cell growth, so use a body scrub and a loofah once or twice a week.

Use a natural sponge with your soap or shower gel to get a rich lather.

A pumice stone is ideal for delicate exfoliation of dry skin on your feet, elbows and hands.

After showering.

Dermatologists recommend you don’t wash your face in the shower but wash your face at the sink and use a facial cleanser. A cleanser will help remove any oily or acidic residue from the shampoo or shower gel.

After you shower, pat dry leaving your skin a little damp. Apply a body lotion or cream as it will help lock in water into your skin and keep your skin hydrated and moisturized.

Properly wash your loofah, sponge or washcloth after every use to avoid bacteria, fungi, and yeast.
