In winter months you’ve probably seen a change in your skin. You’re not alone. With colder temperatures, dry air, frigid winds, and exposure to dry indoor heat, your skin is zapped of its moisture. You may experience dry, flaky, itchy skin but there are some things you can do to help keep your skin hydrated and soft during the winter months.
Avoid Taking Hot Showers
Hot water strips the oils from your skin and can leave it more susceptible to drying out, cracking and flaking. Take a warm shower instead and wash with a moisturizing shower gel.
Moisturize When Your Skin Is Still Damp
After your not-too-hot shower, apply a body lotion or cream before your skin has totally dried, as this will help lock in additional moisture. You can also apply it again before bedtime to help soften and moisturize your skin while you sleep.
Moisturize Your Lips
The skin on your lips is thin, making it more susceptible to damage from the harsh winter elements. To replenish hydration and protect your lips, apply a lip balm throughout the day, as needed.
Take care of your hands
You are undoubtedly washing your hands throughout the day so you should also be applying hand cream. Keep one at your desk, in your car, and in your purse so you remember to reapply.
Drink Lots of Water
In the winter, skin retains less moisture, and drinking water helps replenish some of that hydration.
