The start of a new year is the perfect time to look at ways to take care of you throughout the year. Whether you’re looking at physically, mentally, emotionally or spiritually, here are some self-care tips for a better you.
Diet: when you make better food choices, you feel better. For starters, keep track of what you eat and make any necessary changes you feel need attention such as, eating more fruits and vegetables, cutting back on processed foods and drinking more water.
Fitness: when you exercise your body releases endorphins which trigger a positive feeling in your body. Exercise also helps release tension in your body. And let’s not forget how exercise helps strengthen your heart and bones.
Walking: one way to clear your head and get some fresh air is a brisk walk. Start with a 15-to-20 minute walk every day and build from there, and note the difference.
Hygiene: along with your daily regimen of showering and skincare, try to add a weekly pamper session. This could be in the form of a massage, sauna or facial.
Sleep: poor sleep impacts your overall well-being, which leads to stress and anxiety. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep a night.
Journaling: writing down important things that happen to you every day and how they make you feel will allow you to celebrate your successes and be grateful for your accomplishments.
Reading: take a daily break and read a book. Reading engages your imagination, keeps you learning and sharpens your communication skills.
Personal Time: schedule some personal time every week, whether that’s going to the gym or a movie. Step away from your daily routine.
Hobbies: take up a new hobby or revisit an old one. Find an interest that isn’t connected to your profession. This will give you a break from your daily routine and it will offer you some personal enjoyment.
If you already practice some or many of these tips, good for you! If you’re new to self-care, be patient with yourself. Start by incorporating ones that work for you and add one when you’re ready for it. Work at your own pace.
Alla prossima – until next time. Arrivederci.
